Every now and again, a mama may want an herbal boost and a sweet, chilling smoothie. This recipe is for you! It has simple ingredients and is simply yummy!

What you need:

1) Blender

2) Base – milk, milk alternative (almond milk, rice milk, soy milk etc.) or yogurt

3) Frozen fruit - strawberry and banana (substitute any fruit you like best)

4) Fenugreek seed – 610 mg capsules

5) Ice – optional

If you’ve ever heard the term, galactagogue, that’s referring to a substance known to increase breast milk supply. Discuss with your personal healthcare provider and lactation consultant need and appropriate use prior to starting any herbal supplements. This video discusses the herbal supplement, fenugreek seed. Fenugreek is an herb often utilized as a galactagogue. A common dosage of fenugreek to support and increase milk supply is three 610 mg capsules, three times daily. And if you have any concerns regarding your milk supply (or any breastfeeding concern or question at all!), call up an IBCLC and get help early and often! Remember, the best way to have a healthy breast milk supply and continue to make milk is to remove milk from the breast often and well. Latch baby on demand and if you’re away from baby, pump.
