Many parents question when is the appropriate time to offer high allergy foods to their child. High allergy foods are foods that are known to cause allergies in sensitive persons. These foods include soy, wheat, egg, cow's milk and nuts. New research suggests offering peanuts to a child's diet early decreases allergy risk.
Consider offering a very thin smear of peanut butter to toast to be offered as a complementary food to breast milk. Complementary foods should be offered at 6 months of age and when baby shows signs of readiness for solids. Another option would be finely grinding peanuts into a powder to be stirred into breast milk, yogurt, or other mashed food, such as banana.
